What is an implant bridge?
An implant bridge is a permanently anchored replacement for multiple consecutive missing teeth, supported by two or more dental implants rather than natural teeth.
An implant bridge replaces a row of missing teeth using two or more dental implants as anchors. Unlike a traditional bridge that relies on grinding down and crowning adjacent natural teeth for support, an implant bridge stands independently in the jaw. The prosthetic teeth (the bridge portion) are bonded or screw-retained to abutments connected to the implant fixtures below the gum line.
This restoration works well when you have lost two or more teeth in sequence and want to avoid damaging healthy neighboring teeth. The implants integrate with your jawbone over several months, creating a stable foundation that can last for years with proper care. Because the implants bear the chewing load directly, they help preserve remaining bone in the gap area, which might otherwise deteriorate.
An implant bridge requires sufficient bone height and width where the implants will be placed. If bone loss has occurred, a dentist may recommend a bone graft before implant placement. The final bridge is custom-made to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth and can be fixed (screw-retained or cement-retained) or, in some cases, removable for cleaning.
Finding a dentist experienced in implant prosthodontics is important for proper planning, surgical placement, and long-term management of your implant bridge.
